Commercialising Social Science research for the University of Essex

Challenge Block

Challenge

The University of Essex wanted to build the social sciences research commercialisation awareness and skills of their academic staff. They commissioned us to run a workshop for Social Sciences researchers and professional staff, such as knowledge exchange managers, to encourage collaborative discussions on progressing commercialisation opportunities in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Oxentia Programme Support

Approach

We designed and delivered a 6-hour in-person workshop, split over four main sessions. The goal was to raise social sciences commercialisation awareness and to support the development of commercialisation pipelines through engaging discussions and creating actionable plans.

WP 1: Alignment and Workshop Design

Our dedicated Project Manager and Director met with the University's Impact Acceleration Account Manager and key academic staff to refine their approach, aligning with the University’s goals and current initiatives around social sciences research commercialisation.

WP 2: Workshop Delivery

An introductory session provided an overview of the motivations, challenges, and patterns in social sciences research commercialisation, followed by strategy development on building relationships with internal stakeholders and IP management.
